One Sunday Morning

Sisters, I want to share a moment I experienced recently to show just how easy it is to try to do the Lord’s will our own way.  Each day, I pray and ask God for the wisdom to make choices that please Him, because my desire really is to please God.  (I felt the need to share that before I describe what happened.)  So, here we go…

One Sunday morning, God spoke to me and told me to call a Manna Sister to share a word from Him.  I looked at the clock and figured, “Well, she’s probably getting ready for church, so I’ll call her when I return from service.”  I continued my morning reading. 

A few minutes later, God spoke to me again and told me to call her.  Once again, I looked at the time and decided that I would text her “thus saith the Lord.”  The Holy Spirit stopped me in my tracks and asked me, “Did I tell you to text her?”

Immediately, I realized that I had heard God’s instruction, but I had not done what He told me to do.  I was so disappointed in myself, especially since I shared at the beginning of this entrée that I pray daily for wisdom to make choices that please the Lord.  I called the Manna Sister at that moment and told her what God had shared with me.  She let out a deep sigh and said, “I needed to hear that.”

Unafraid

Recently, I was telling a dear friend about my Florida vacation with my husband last year.  There were many highlights, but one really stood out as I was recalling the events of our trip.  Honestly, I didn’t even realize how profound it was until she responded with amazement.

I had decided that what I really desired was to see was an alligator in the wild (which I did)!  My husband and I went on an airboat adventure, a first for us both, and what I witnessed left me in awe.  As we enjoyed the breeze and talked among the other guests, we noticed cows grazing on grass that was growing up from the marsh.  Cows right there in the water—the same marsh where alligators were swimming?!  I’d never seen cows in the water like that, and I was fascinated that they didn’t seem the least bit phased by the predators lurking around. 

As tourists do, we began to take pictures and flooded our captain with all kinds of questions.  He explained, “Oh, the cows aren’t afraid of the alligators because those cows are huge.  They don’t see the alligators of too much of a threat.  It would take so many alligators to harm even one of them, and the alligators don’t even approach the cows.  The cows just keep their young from coming out too far into the water.”  Mind. Blown!  I mean, think about it.  How could anything not be afraid of an alligator?

Well, the captain told us:

  1. The cows knew how big and strong they were.
  2. They knew the behavior of the alligators.
  3. The cows stayed in groups and shielded their young.

That got me thinking, of course.  Sisters, do we really know who we are (and Who we serve)?  Have we equipped ourselves with the Word of God so that we know how to prepare ourselves for any attack the enemy may try to bring?

Fill Me Up, Lord

Have you ever had one of those days when you feel like you simply have nothing else to give?  We get pulled in so many directions sometimes; it can be hard to just catch your breath, let alone function at a high level on a daily basis.  And the demands of everyday life never seem to stop, just a constant pull on you spiritually and naturally.  You ever just get tired of being tired?  I have definitely been there.  It’s in these moments that we have to really press to get into the Presence of the Lord.  He promised to renew us, but sometimes we get so caught up in the chaos that we forget that and try to operate under our own strength.  Well, guess what ladies?  That gets old really fast.  In our own strength, we are extremely limited. 

God recently reminded me that it’s in my weakest moments that His strength is made perfect.  (2 Corinthians 12:9)  He reminds us, “My grace is sufficient for you.”  In other words, you have enough and you are enough because I am in control.  It’s in those moments that we rely totally on Him, not our own strength, experiences, or knowledge.  And it’s those times that we have no choice but to turn to God.  And He doesn’t disappoint; God shows up and He shows out.  Well, now God is teaching me how to rely on Him for everything—even those things I think that I have a good handle on.  You know, the day goes a lot smoother when you consult God at the start of the day instead of waiting until a crisis to talk to Him.

God can fulfill our needs in ways we can’t begin to imagine.  There are many examples of God’s ability to move us beyond our own abilities and resources, but the Holy Spirit led me to this one to share.  It’s an example of God’s supernatural provision.
