The Right Way

This morning, as I was studying Psalm 107:1-9 (NKJV), the Holy Spirit pointed something out that has blown my mind today.  First, let’s take a look at the passage of Scripture:

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
2Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,
3And gathered out of the lands,
From the east and from the west,
From the north and from the south.

4They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way;
They found no city to dwell in.
5Hungry and thirsty,
Their soul fainted in them.
6Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
And He delivered them out of their distresses.
7And He led them forth by the right way,
That they might go to a city for a dwelling place.
8Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
9For He satisfies the longing soul,
And fills the hungry soul with goodness.

Whose Steps Are You Following?

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. (Psalm 37:13)

God promised to lead and guide us each day.  That’s why He sent the Holy Spirit; it’s one of His functions.  When we encounter darkness, the Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our pathway.  The Word shows us the way to go, and Jesus is the Light of the world.  When we are surrounded by darkness, we need only keep focused on Jesus to lead us in the way we should go.  And we bring delight to God as we walk in the steps that He provides.  He delights in His way because His way is the right way.  His way is a reflection of His righteousness.

We have been taught that all we need to do is follow Jesus, right?  So then, I wonder at times in the midst of dark, confusing moments in my life, “How can I know God like I do and still end up here?”  You see, I have had many moments in my life when I seemed to go the total opposite of where I should have gone.  Thank God for His infinite grace and mercy!  I have walked with the Lord for a really long time and still manage to fall short daily.  But I have also learned that there is a purpose to everything I have ever experienced—good and bad.  And even in those moments when I decided to take another path, God has always been right there to steer me back on track.  I know God’s hand is upon my life.  He shows me every single day—even when I fall short.
