What Do You Really Want from God?

There was a man who had been sick for thirty-eight years.  Jesus knew he had been in that condition for a long time.  Jesus knows where we are at any given moment in time, too.  He sees our tears, and He knows about our hurts and pains.  He knew this man had been suffering, so He asked, “Do you want to be made well (or whole in KJV)?”

Isn’t that interesting?  Jesus knew the condition of the man.  He knew the man had been sick for a long time, yet He did not lay hands on him immediately.  He asked him a question, “What do you want?”  I thought it was interesting until I realized that the man had not actually asked Jesus for help.  He needed to be healed, but he had not asked Jesus anything.  Isn’t that something?  We have our deepest desires, and we are waiting for manifestation, but have we actually asked God?

And when the man answered, he said, “I do not have anyone to help me.  When I try to get in, someone beats me to it.”  Instead of asking Jesus for help, the first thing the man did was give a sob story.  He never even answered the question!  He was so focused on the water that he did not even recognize the healing in the Living Water of the Son of God.
