Well, Nabal’s servants panicked and ran to Nabal’s wife, Abigail, and told her everything. And they told her that she’d better figure something out because trouble was headed their way. It was about to go down!
Abigail didn’t waste any time! She gathered 200 loaves of bread, 2 wineskins full of wine, 5 sheep that had been slaughtered, almost a bushel of roasted grain, 100 clusters of raisins, and 200 fig cakes. She packed them on donkeys and told the servants to deliver them, and she would follow.
David and his men were headed to kill Nabal and his entire household. David was still going off about how Nabal had treated him when Abigail encountered him. She boldly yet humbly stood in the gap and pleaded on behalf of her husband, and she presented the gifts to David. Her quick actions saved the lives of everyone in Nabal’s household! (David’s men did not harm Nabal, although later, Nabal had a stroke and died as a result of his treatment of David!)
