I was reading 1 Samuel 25 this morning. It’s a fascinating account of just how much we, as women, can influence the outcome. Let me give you a quick account of what happened:
Samuel died and all of Israel gathered for his funeral. Afterward, David went to the wilderness of Maon during sheep-shearing time. There was a wealthy man from Maon named Nabal, who owned 3,000 sheep and 1,000 goats. Before I go any further, let me just say that even our names have a significant meaning to our lives. Sisters, pray before you name anything that is important to you: your child, your business, your ministry. You may ask, “Why would she mention that right now?” Well, the name Nabal means fool. This man was destined to make foolish decisions. It was in his name.
David sent ten of his men with a message for Nabal: a greeting with well wishes and a request for any provisions that he could spare to share with David, because David and his men had previously encountered Nabal’s shepherds, and not only did they refuse to harm them, David’s men offered protection.
