Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” That’s not just an expression in the Bible; it’s a fact. Did you know that laughter decreases stress hormones and actually increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies? Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the feel-good chemicals that exist naturally in your body. Laughter increases your heart rate, and as you breathe deeply, more oxygen circulates around your body; it stimulates your heart, lungs, and muscles and even burns calories. (And no, that is not a replacement for physical exercise!) All of that comes from a good laugh!
I encourage you to take some time today to just laugh. Reach deep down and laugh! Release those tears! Laugh until you can’t stop laughing. Don’t focus on all of the things around you that try to stifle your laughter. Take time to just laugh. Be the Proverbs 31 woman. Verse 25 says, “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” You don’t have to worry about the future. You can laugh, knowing that God has the final say in everything that concerns you. Why worry about something that God has already handled? He has it all figured out, so you don’t need to worry anyway. Sister, you can relax and laugh. Laughter is a gift. Enjoy your gift today! It’s another way to express the love of God as you experience the fullness of joy. Go ahead, laugh out loud today!
