Remember the definition of reservoir? (A place where something is kept in store.) A reservoir holds onto everything: problems, stress, worry, fear, doubt, confusion, unforgiveness, and anger. It voluntarily carries weight. When someone confides in a reservoir, the reservoir may do everything the conduit does except for one very important part: she doesn’t hand it over to the Father; she chooses to hold onto it. She continues to pray, but she keeps holding onto the problem, which has now become dead weight. Again, Sister, you were not designed to be a beast of burden. You cannot run around solving everyone’s problems and carrying all of their pain. Pray, be there to support them, and hand those problems over to the Father. I Peter 5:7 reminds us to cast all of our cares upon the Lord because He cares for us. In other words, pray, release, and keep it moving! Jesus can handle what you cannot. And He cares for you deeply. Trust Him completely and release yourself from voluntary bondage.
Now, some of you may ask, “Well, aren’t we supposed to bear the infirmities of the weak?” (Romans 15:1) Again, God is not asking you to carry burdens. He is asking you to bear with the shortcomings of those who are weak. And point them right to Jesus. He can carry the load. And He can carry you in the midst of all of your tests and trials. Jesus can carry all of us at the same time, no matter what we are dealing with. Do you believe that? You have enough on your spiritual plate, right? Why would you voluntarily carry a load that you’re not even designed to carry?
So, I’ll ask you again, Sister. Which are you, a conduit or a reservoir?
