Your Words Matter

Let me give you another example of just how easy it is to speak words that are not life-affirming. It’s embedded in our culture and even in our churches. One day, we were singing during praise and worship, giving a shout-out to the “old songs,” one of which happened to be “Glory, glory, Hallelujah, since I laid my burdens down…” The Holy Spirit checked me and asked, “Why are you claiming burdens? You were not designed to carry burdens, so why would you sing about your burdens? Those are not yours.” Right then and there, I sang, “since I laid the burdens down.” I don’t think anyone even noticed. But I never forgot that, and to this day, I still don’t sing it. I am determined to speak and manifest life all around me, especially now.

Sisters, God has not forsaken you. Please know that! While I am sheltering in place, I am still finding things to celebrate. I’m grateful that my husband and my folks are safe. I’m grateful that we have food to eat and a roof over our heads. I’m grateful that I can call my loved ones and hear their voices, even if I can’t see them right now. I can still see God moving. So, I’m partying with the Lord and having a blast. I’m speaking life over my household and believing that God will continue to take care of His own. I know my words matter. I truly believe that, so I will continue to use my words to speak life. Will you join me?
