- Of course, the disciples didn’t quite get the revelation of what Jesus was asking them to do. They didn’t realize they were already equipped to do the supernatural. (After you read this, you should read “What’s in Your Hand?”) I can imagine the expressions on their faces when they told Jesus they only had two fish and five loaves of bread. Have you ever wondered how in the world you were going to accomplish something Jesus instructed you to do? Has Jesus ever told you to do something, and your first thought was, “Jesus, do You see what I’m working with here?” The disciples just did not understand. “Jesus, we don’t have enough to feed all of these people.”
You see, Jesus knew that He had the capacity to feed all of them. Verses 39-44 continue the account:
Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties. And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all. So they all ate and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish. Now those who had eaten the loaves were about five thousand men.
It’s interesting that Jesus blessed the food and broke the loaves, but He gave the food to His disciples to distribute. The disciples experienced the miracle through their own hands. Think about that today. What is Jesus asking you to distribute today? Are you willing to step out and do it?
Isn’t it amazing that two fish and five loaves of bread were not only enough, but they even had leftovers! Trust God completely today. He knows what He’s doing. And He’ll blow your mind!
