Faith-driven or Fear-driven?

So, let me ask, “Have you ever been totally consumed by fear?”  It’s really just a waste of your energy— that energy could be better spent in other areas of your life!  I’ve had to face situations that caused me to be extremely fearful, so I’m not telling you to pretend that you never contend with fear.  You are human, right?  So let’s just be real about it.  But I do want you to know that you have access to the Holy Spirit for a reason.  You have a Comforter right there with you.

When I feel that spirit of fear trying to harass me, instead of cowering away I say—out loud— For God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).  I am not afraid of the spirit of fear because I know I have power over it.  I can stand on God’s Word and walk right through those moments.  Sometimes the Holy Spirit whispers to me and reminds me, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn.  This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord (Isaiah 54:17).

Then, I begin to feel encouraged, and because my confidence is in God (and not in my own abilities) and my expectation is in Him (Psalm 62:5), I boldly walk forward and actually embrace what God has presented to me—the very thing that I was once afraid of.  And notice, I said what God has presented to me.  I am learning how to seek God in everything.  I don’t just run out there all willy-nilly, placing my hands upon things that God didn’t instruct me to do.

You see, I want to accomplish everything that God has purposed for my life, so I don’t have time to waste on things that aren’t really for me anyway.  And more importantly, I want to be the woman He designed me to be.  God knows me.  He knows that sometimes I need that extra nudge.  Usually the push comes from the Word itself.  In Mark 9:23, Jesus said,” If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”  Jesus didn’t say some things; He said all things.  When I read that Scripture, I feel encouraged.  As a matter of fact, I have Scriptures posted all over my office and around my home.  The Word breathes life into me every time I read it or say it out loud.
