Stuck in the Mud

I prayed and prayed. I thought something was wrong with me. Maybe I’d heard God incorrectly. Maybe He didn’t even choose me. (The enemy really played with my mind around that one.) So I went back to what God had instructed me to do. I had to remind myself that those whom God calls, He also equips, fully. What I really needed was some sort of push. And my answer came in Psalm 40:1-2 (NLT), “I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.”

I had waited patiently for God, and I knew that He had heard me. I moved from wondering, “Do you see me, Lord?” to knowing that He was right there with me in the pit. I trusted that He would move me from the despair I was feeling. I desperately wanted to be obedient to the will of God—I just didn’t know where to begin and how to start moving. And then I realized why. I couldn’t get out of the pit and the mud on my own. I needed to be lifted out of the pit and pulled from the mud and the mire.

Sometimes you can just rise, take up your bed, and walk (Acts 3:5-6). But other times, you really do need God to lift you out. You need Him to set your feet on solid ground and help you steady your feet. Don’t allow the enemy to torment you because you need God to lift you. You are not a weak Christian. We are part of the body of Christ for a reason. We are connected to one another to be there to complement and support each other. Each member is important to the entire body. You are the called and chosen of God, and it’s important to always recognize that without Him, you can do nothing. Depend on Him completely and watch Him move. If you encounter a moment when you need to be lifted, be honest with God and with yourself. And reach out for help!
