When They Just Don’t Want to Know

A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. “Give glory to God by telling the truth,” they said. “We know this man is a sinner.”

25 He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”

26 Then they asked him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”

27 He answered, “I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?”

Did you notice that they told him to give God glory by telling the truth?  It made me wonder, if they were followers of Christ, why didn’t they recognize truth when they heard it?  They tried to convince the man that Jesus was a sinner and continued to ask him questions.  But now the man was losing his patience with them:  Look, I already told you and you don’t want to listen.  (Have you ever been there?  It can be exasperating!)

The man made it very clear:

  • I was blind and now I can see.
  • God is moved by those who are godly and who follow His will.
  • Without God, this man could do nothing.

Who could argue with that?

Well, it turns out, the Pharisees could.  They began to hurl insults at the man and threw him out!  They even said, “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!”  Never forget that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.  Don’t allow self-righteousness to cloud your vision and cause you to hinder someone from experiencing the Presence of God (or to miss it for yourself).  We should be able to receive the report of the Lord from anyone, whether they are in the pulpit or out on the street.  So be aware of your own biases when people don’t look the way you’d expect them to look.

Don’t miss the move of God because it’s not the ideal time or it’s what you perceive as the wrong place.  Any time that God wants to move is the right time and wherever He chooses to do it is the right place.  And don’t be disheartened when others around you don’t recognize what God has done or they aren’t able to accept the change in your circumstances.  You are chosen of God, and you are on full display.  Allow Him to move as you walk in your blessings boldly and unapologetically.
