I mentioned that she poured the oil. Now, there is a very special lesson here. The man of God told her what to do. He didn’t pour the oil; otherwise she may have mistakenly thought he was providing the increase. God worked through her hands. Use wisdom when you are helping others. Sometimes you will have to roll up your sleeves and get to work to help. But other times, God may simply tell you to give instruction, pray, and then allow them to act. Always pray before you respond to someone’s need. We want God to get the glory out of our lives.
Verse six is powerful. When the son replied, “There is not another vessel,” the oil ceased. It stopped after there was nothing left to fill. God’s provision was as large as their faith and their willingness to obey. Don’t settle. Allow God to fill you completely. Remember, “Do not gather just a few.”
The woman obeyed God, and God supernaturally increased what she already had. He does that today too. When you’ve reached the end of the rope, breathe deeply and allow the Holy Spirit to multiply your strength and to renew your mind, body, and spirit. He will add the super to your natural. Just ask Him. Don’t limit God, and don’t limit what you can accomplish through God. It’s ok to be weak sometimes. We live in natural bodies that feel the effects of the cares of life, and we are not superheroes, contrary to popular belief. All you need is faith and willful obedience. Notice I said willful obedience. That’s a “Yes, Lord” response and not “Why Lord?” And there is a very big difference. In those moments when you’ve reached the limit and you arrive at “Yes, Lord,” expect God to move mightily. He can handle it so much better than we can anyway. Be still long enough to allow God to fill your cup so that it can run over. He’s waiting. Bring those empty vessels: empty emotionally, spiritually, financially, physically. Bring them all and watch Him fill them up. And in those times when it just seems like things are not getting any better, remember Romans 8:18, For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. So hold on!
God is faithful. Just trust Him. Your cup will overflow.
