Waiting for the Perfect Time

Waiting for the perfect conditions can lead us to becoming stagnant.  Think about it.  When we decide to start a new exercise plan, we try to find the right time to start.  We say things like, “Well, right now we are in the midst of the holiday season, better wait until January.”  Then January comes and goes and we still are doing the same things we were six months ago.

It even applies to our relationships.  If we are waiting on the perfect spouse, we will never get married.  That pursuit of perfection will only become a source of frustration.

People who will not commit until they are absolutely certain of success will not accomplish anything.  Where is our faith and confidence in God?

Now, I’m not saying that we don’t need to take time to prepare.  But preparation is not resting on our laurels. We have to be prepared because life does not come with a list of guarantees.  We have no excuse to just sit idle and do nothing.  Our waiting should be a matter of the leading of the Holy Spirit, not our unending list of excuses.  And guess what? Even waiting requires work.  While we are waiting, we must pray, seek the face of God, praise and worship Him, obey His commands, prepare for what we are waiting on.  There is work to be done while we wait on God to move on our behalf.

And it’s important to take steps each day to grow spiritually.  Don’t wait for the perfect conditions—that’s ideal, and we don’t have time to sit and wait for ideal moments.  Take advantage of the time you have today.  We are very creative, and it’s by design.  Pray and cook.  Have praise and worship in the car.  Learn how to get into His Presence even when you’re not at church.  Pray in the bathroom.  Take a moment and meditate on the Word during your lunch break.  And take the time to dream again.  God hasn’t forgotten what He promised you.
