Lord, You Want Me To Do THAT?

Exodus 4:1-13 tells us about a very humble man who just cannot see the big picture.  He cannot see past himself.

Excuses:

  1. Why me? (Ex. 3:11)
  2. When they ask who sent me, what will I tell them? (Exodus 3:13)
  3. What if they don’t believe me or listen to what I have to say? (Exodus 4:1)
  4. Wait a minute; I’m not good with words. (Exodus 4:10)
  5. Can You please just send somebody else? (Exodus 4:13)

And God responded graciously to Moses and gave him evidence to show that he was God’s chosen vessel.  But Moses still wasn’t convinced.

In Exodus 4:11-12, God said, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.”  Isn’t that awesome?!  God will be with our mouths and teach us what to say!

God is well aware of our shortcomings, yet He STILL chooses to use us.  That’s why we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us—because He strengthens us to do it.

But there is another lesson in all of this that’s even deeper.  Our obedience to God is paramount to our relationship with Him.  In John 14:15, Jesus says, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”  In other words, “If you love Me, do what I tell you to do.”
