Peace, the Road to Rest

Peace leads us to rest, but it also guards our hearts and minds.   Philippians 4:6-7 says, Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Peace provides protection for our hearts and minds.  We don’t have to be consumed by the cares of life because Jesus, the Prince of Peace, has us at all times. Peace, leads us to rest.  No peace, no rest.  Have you ever laid down and slept all night, but you still woke up exhausted?  Your mind was racing; you didn’t have peace.  Peace is such an important attribute for us to develop in order to live the lives God promised us.  And the verse said the effect of righteousness is peace.

When you reach the place of peace, nothing else matters.  You begin to operate in the complete confidence that God has answered your prayers and provided what you are seeking.  You simply enjoy being in His Presence.  Then you can rest your spirit, your mind, your heart, and your body.

The challenge for us is to get into that place spiritually so that we can enter that place physically.  Peace leads to rest.  It’s the place where you find yourself basking in the Presence of God.  You aren’t focused on the cares of life; you are focused on the King of Kings.  You are spending quality time with God in that place.  It’s the place of nourishment and refreshment, where you find renewal and can catch your breath.  As Christians, we have to find this place; it’s vital to our survival.  Once you get there spiritually, your physical surroundings can transform into the place where you can go to get away with God. It may be in your bedroom, the kitchen, the bathroom, even the car.  It’s where the Spirit of God comes to meet you, just as God met with Moses in the tent.
