Immediately vs. Eventually

When the King of Israel received the letter, he panicked.  He thought the king of Aram was trying to initiate a conflict. The king panicked because he knew the request was beyond his control.

  • When you encounter something way beyond your control, don’t panic.  Just pray.

In verse 8, Elisha, the man of God, heard that the king had torn his clothes, and he sent a message to him.  “Why have you reacted in such a way?  Tell him to come to me and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel.”

  • First of all, look at the confidence the man of God displays.  There is no doubt in his mind; he is ready to move according to God’s word.
  • As people of God, we must learn to stand firmly on the Word of God, confident that He will do what He said.

In verse 9, Naaman went to Elisha’s house with his horses and chariots and he went to the door.  Elisha didn’t even answer the door; he sent a messenger to tell Naaman to wash himself in the Jordan River seven times and that he’d be cleansed and his flesh restored.

  • Some matters simply require us to speak and believe the Word.
